| OCALA,
Fla. November 30, 2005 -- CellForCash.com, a web site
that pays cash for old, unwanted cell phones, announced
today that 2005 phone purchases
have passed the $1 million mark, the first time that
annual purchases have surpassed the million dollar mark.
James Mosieur, chief executive officer of RMS Communications
Group Inc., CellForCash.com’s parent company, said
the million-dollar milestone was passed in early November.
He said the growth of cell phone purchases has been strong
and steady since the website was found in 2002.
“CellForCash.com is
the leader in the used cell phone industry, and the volume
of phone purchases has grown virtually every month,” Mosieur
said. “Reaching $1 million in annual purchases is
an important milestone, and we expect our growth to continue
on a fast track.”
Mosieur said CellForCash.com will aggressively protect
its leadership position in the industry. The company recently
announced that it would increase the amount of money it
pays for more than 350 used cell phone models.
“The enhanced pricing
policy indicates that we intend to maintain our leadership
position and give all the value we possibly can for good
used cell phones,” he said.
CellForCash.com was founded in 2002, the first web site
to offer cash for used cell phones. In the three years
since, the web site has purchased more than 200,000 used
handsets.
It offers cash for more
than 500 different models of used cell phones. Prospective
sellers can go to the CellForCash.com website, look up
the model that they would like to sell, and immediately
see what the company will pay. Prices range from a few
dollars to well over $100 for each phone.
CellForCash.com pays cash for the old cell phones, pays
for their shipping, and then recycles and re-markets them
throughout the world. The company recycles more than 75,000
used cell phones every month.
While CellForCash.com was
the first web site to be developed by RMS, a number of
others have followed. One, www.WirelessFundraiser.com,
provides cash to non-profit organizations that collect
and send in old cell phones. Another, www.RecycleForUS.com,
is an environmental initiative that helps companies, government
agencies and other groups and individuals collect and recycle
old cell phones. The newest RMS website, www.911CellPhoneBank.com,
donates about 1,000 cell phones every month to law enforcement
and other agencies for use as 911 emergency phones.
