OCALA, Fla. (PRCUBE November
18, 2005 -- CellForCash.com, a web site that pays cash
for old, unwanted cell phones, announced today it will
pay $1 for every phone that sellers send in with the valuable
phones that it agrees to buy.
The offer applies to old cell phones that CellForCash.com
would normally not buy, according to James Mosieur, chief
executive officer of RMS Communications Group Inc., CellForCash.com’s
parent company.
CellForCash.com pays cash for more than 500 models of used
cell phones, and those models – along with the prices
they bring – are listed on the CellForCash.com website.
Under the new policy, the company will accept and pay $1
for each unwanted phone that sellers include in the shipping
box with the phone that CellForCash.com agreed to purchase.
“We know that there are thousands and thousands of
old cell phones sitting in desk drawers across America,
and we know that those old phones represent a significant
environmental threat if they end up discarded in landfills,” Mosieur
said.
“We buy more than 500 models of old phones, but there
are quite a few models, especially older ones, that we
don’t buy,” he said. “We wanted to offer
people a way to get rid of those old, valueless phones
in an environmentally responsible manner, so we decided
to accept the bad as well as the good. Paying $1 each for
them should encourage people to send them in.”
The old phones that are accepted but which have no re-market
value will be recycled and discarded in an environmentally
responsible fashion by CellForCash.com technicians, Mosieur
said.
When people agree to sell a used cell phone for cash, CellForCash.com
sends them a pre-addressed, postage-paid shipping box.
CellForCash.com will accept and pay $1 each for every old
phone that sellers can squeeze into the shipping box, Mosieur
said.
CellForCash.com has been buying used cell phones since
2002. It was the first such web site to offer cash for
used cell phones, and it remains the industry leader today
by a comfortable margin. The web site pays anywhere from
a few dollars to well over $100 for the used phones.
While CellForCash.com was the first web site to be developed
by RMS, a number of others have followed. One, www.WirelessFundraiser.com,
provides cash to non-profit organizations that collect
and send in old cell phones. Another, www.RecycleForUS.com,
is an environmental initiative that helps companies, government
agencies and other groups and individuals collect and recycle
old cell phones. The newest RMS website, www.911CellPhoneBank.com,
donates about 1,000 cell phones every month to law enforcement
and other agencies for use as 911 emergency phones.
